Fringe on the Streets

image

The street style that continues through out every single fashion week thus far- FRINGE! The trend started at NYFW and continues to show all its glory at LFW MFW and PFW. Even the runway shows for SS15 have been debuting a lot of fringe. I paired my ASTR fringe skirt from Nordstrom with a basic tank top from TargetTOPSHOP leather jacket, and Ivanka Trump pointy-toe mules. I found these Ivanka Trump heels on sale at Nordstrom, and can’t find them anywhere online, but died when I found these gorgeous alternatives from Ivanka Trump that you’ll love here. Cute right? I love how easy it is to change the look of the skirt by dressing it up or down. You can dress up the skirt by pairing it with a crop top, or a sweater for this crazy weather approaching. This is a hot trend to carry over for next year, so start searching!

Rad Jacqueline

IMG_7939

This year’s Simply Stylist event in Chicago had the Dana Hotel & Spa packed with inspirational, stylish woman in the fashion industry. I got the chance to chat with a former Columbia College Chicago grad, Celebrity Fashion Stylist Jacqueline Rezak and founder of online clothing and accessories boutique Rad + Refined. Rad+Refined features a collection of basics that have been seen on celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Brandi Cyrus, E! News host Catt Sadler, and Simply Stylist’s Sarah Boyd. Along with the basics, Jacqueline’s statement Floral and Dino “Rad Bands” sunglasses have also been seen on celebrities and worn by Rad Babes overseas! Check out my interview with Jacqueline to find out how she turned her Rad dreams into a reality.

D: As a fellow Columbia College grad, how do you think college prepared you for “the real world?”
J: Columbia prepared me for the “real world” by having industry professionals come in to inspire and speak to us about what the the industry was really like.
D: How did you first get into styling?
J: I began with a blog I started writing while in college in Chicago, it was all things that were “rad and refined” especially style.  After graduation I moved to LA and turned my blog into an e-commerce boutique all based around the idea of having a “rad and refined” style. From there I began styling musicians and people with similar style to my own in Los Angeles and things took off from there!

D: What are the top 3 must haves in your styling kit?
J: Steamer/ Safety Pins/ Lint Roller
D: What advice would you give to someone who is starting their own business?
J: Make a business plan and set your goals ahead of time, things always change to some extent but having a plan to follow is crucial. It might take a few tries, don’t get discouraged- each mistake is a learning experience.
D: What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome having your own business?
J: There are a lot of different areas of Rad and Refined to focus on, from styling, designing, buying, writing, website, graphic design and more. It took me some time to learn how to juggle so many different tasks and areas of the business. Once you do anything for awhile you start to get the hang of it and that is how I feel now.

D: What’s been the best moment of your career so far with styling and owning your own clothing/accessory line?
J: The best moment for me is always watching my clients feel their best and confident in something I put on them. There is nothing more satisfying then knowing you have helped someone to feel their best.
D: What is the best advice you can give to college students who aspire to become a fashion stylist and own their own business?
J: Be open and accepting of different people, do as many internships as you can, and always have a strong backbone. If you do those things, no one can stop you.
