8 NYFW Runway Trends You Need to See

NYFW is over, but is always the most anticipated week out of the four because New York kicks off fashion month. London just ended, which we saw some similar trends on the runway from New York (ruffles, suits etc.). Milan has just kicked off their week and last but not least- Paris (always a great place to end fashion month). There has been so many trends that have evolved even more from past seasons. This year fringe has taken on a new spin, sleepwear is becoming more popular, modernized suits, and adding an extra ruffle. I broke it down with these 8 trends from NYFW that you’ll want to get your hands on for S/S16. Next week- LFW Trends!

Emmys 2015 Red Carpet Looks

YES, YES, & YES to these three^ last night at the 2015 Emmy Awards. These are definitely my top three best dressed women of the night, and the number one best dressed goes to Kerry Washington for wearing this stunning Marc Jacobs dress straight off of his S/S16 runway show just a few days ago! Second goes to Jaimie Alexander in an all sequined Armani Prive gown, and Lady Gaga is wearing none other than her personal stylist Brandon Maxwell’s new collection. Good job to you and your stylists! Now for the other best dressed, trends of the night, and then the worst of the night (which there were quite a few)…

Some more best dressed goes to Christine Marzano in a black & blue sequined dress that is covering in all the right places. Tatiana Maslany definitely rocked the full on white suit on the carpet wearing Bouchra Jarrar Couture, and Aubrey Plaza looks stunning in Alexandre Vauthier.

Sarah Hyland looking gorgeous in Zac Posen. The dress is stunning, but don’t think you needed the matchy-matchy accessories Sarah. Emma Roberts is wearing Jenny Packham. Love this look on her, but it can do without the necklace. Julie Bowen looks perfect in a fit-to-flare black Georges Chakra gown.

A trend of the night was to be completely covered head-to-toes in sequins, and these three definitely did it to perfection. Jaimie Alexander is wearing an all sequined Armani Prive gown, Ellie Kemper is wearing a multi-colored striped Naeem Khan gown, and Sarah Paulson is wearing a Prabal Gurung off-the-shoulder gown.

Another trend of the night was BLACK! Not just black, but with cut-outs too. So many women wore black on the red carpet this year. Taraji P. Henson is wearing a custom Alexander Wang dress, Amanda Peet is wearing a Michael Kors gown, and Amy Poehler is also wearing a Michael Kors dress with cut-outs.

Heidi, Heidi…this had to be the biggest disappointment of the night. She can literally wear anything she wants and chose the one hideous Versace gown. Taryn Manning’s dress by Rubin Singer looks like her stylist picked it from the halloween store! I mean come on, it’s like a vampire/scream costume. Nazanin Boniadi is wearing Stephane Rolland. The fit and construction of the dress is just so unflattering on her. Last but not least Naomi Grossman’s dress is a cool concept, but also just very unflattering for her body type.

What was your best & worst dressed of the night?!

What Labor Day Rule?

Who the F made up the “Can’t wear white after Labor Day” rule? Well, I don’t like them because white is one of my favorite colors and I will wear it year round. Fashion lovers- you don’t have to follow those silly rules because you can dress however you want, and for that reason here are some of my favorite white pieces to shop for fall:

5 Simple Lace-up DIY Steps

Want to add a little lace-up to your suit, or since summer is pretty much over..to your low-cut top? As we know lace-up has been a huge trend this summer and it is carrying into fall. I decided to add some lace to my Asos one-piece swimsuit not only because I love this trend, but because it is a little revealing with sudden movement. Here are 5 simple steps to adding lace-up to your clothes:

Supplies: Grommet pliers, grommets, scissors, pencil (fabric chalk), piece of fabric to practice on (make sure it’s the same thickness of the fabric you are working on to get the same results). I practiced setting the grommet on a similar swimwear fabric.

  1. Practice, practice, practice on another piece of fabric before applying the grommets to the garment you are working on so you don’t make any mistakes!
  2. First, mark your garment in the areas you want place your grommets.
  3. Using your scissors, cut a small slit in the marked area to fit the grommet in the hole. Make sure to cut a small hole, so the grommet fits tight. You may need to stretch the hole around the grommet to make sure it is secure.
  4. Once it is settled in, take the pliers, place the grommet in between (in the fabric), and press down pretty hard to secure the grommet in. You may need to rotate the pliers around the grommet to make sure it is equally secure all the way around.
  5. It’s set! Once all your grommets are set in, lace it up!
